3. Pixel Gun World?

Did any of you used to play Pixel Gun 3D back in the day (between 2013 and early 2016)? I was a huge fan of that mobile game before it became an annoying cashgrab.

Well, you may know that there was a short-lived PC version called Pixel Gun World. As far as I can remember, it was released in 2015 and shut down in about late 2016. I didn't play it that much, but at the time, I appreciated being able to play such a fun game on my laptop. It was also a bit of a relief from the pay-to-win hell that the main game was turning into.

Recently, I discovered on my own that the development for that game had resumed. I found the game launcher in a backup of my old laptop's hard drive and double clicked it without the slightest hesitation. I was extremely curious to see if I could still do something with it. To my surprise, it started downloading game files! Surely, this can't be real, right? This game died a few years ago! It turns out a developer named RobDev somehow revived the project and now he handles it all on his own. I don't even know how he got the old launcher to download what was technically a new game, handled by a different development "team". All I knew was I had to play the game and find out what was going on.

After putting it off for some time, today I opened up the game. I got it to work without any tweaks on Fedora by using Wine, so that's what I'll stick with. This version of the game keeps the same feel as the old Pixel Gun World. In a way, it's quite incomplete compared to the current Pixel Gun 3D, but most of what's in the new game is unnecessary anyway. This feels like a much more original and classic experience, which makes it more nostalgic for me. And nostalgia is the reason why I was excited to see one of my childhood videogames come back to life thanks to a random 17-year-old anthropomorphic dragon developer.

But wait, isn't there a PC port of Pixel Gun 3D?

Yes, but that's not what I was talking about. The port of Pixel Gun 3D that is to be released on Steam on April 2nd is made by Cubic Games Studio, the same developers as the mobile version. Meanwhile, Pixel Gun World is not maintained by them anymore. I'll try the official PC port when it comes out, but I don't have high hopes for it. Until then, I'll enjoy some Pixel Gun World. I just wish it were more active... Most of the lobbies I join are entirely made up of bots.
